Happy Monday, kids! And yes, for the first time in ages (if not ever?), I do mean that! Today is a happy day for sure, since it's my first at my new job! It's still surreal to know that I won't be back at the center today (and that I have to drive to work...I think that's the oddest part for me right now...I've always been able to walk to work, since I only live a few blocks away, but now it's more like 4 miles...I could run there, I know, but then I would arrive all sweaty and gross and have to do it again at the end of the day after keeping an infant and a toddler entertained and safe [read: exhausted], so it just seems wisest to save my runs for before work and the weekends and drive to the house....but I digress), but I am very excited! It should be interesting to see how I adjust, since this is completely different from anything I've done before, and I've never cared for an infant this young (and while I love them, babies can be scary when you can't figure out what they need/want)....but my goal is go easy on myself and not be afraid to ask for help and as many questions as I want/need. Thankfully, the mom of the boys I will be watching is home with me for this first week, so that we can work together, and I can hopefully become much more comfortable with their routine. Marvelous indeed. What else is marvelous? Glad you asked (and that Katie provided such an awesome way to tell you...thanks for that, love!)...
Monday is marvelous because...
...giftcards from parents at school to a local grocery store enabled me to have some fun before hitting Trader Joe's for the usual eats. Most random purchases ever, I know, (and I assure you that's not even close to all the food I bought yesterday) but it was nice to get some treats I usually wouldn't (Molly, that Special K is all your fault since you kept mentioning it and got my craving going again)...oh and pretzel bread? All over that.....
...these lovely items are now in my apartment. Trader Joe's was out of the froyo last week, and I almost had a tantrum in the middle of the store (#noshame); thankfully, they remedied that situation for this week. And I've never been able to purchase a full container of Justin's nut butter before. If you think I was excited this weekend to get one, you would be entirely correct. And yes, I have already tried it on bread, pretzels, apples, and from my finger...it tastes amazing on everything.
...these items were discovered at Target. I have no idea how they jumped into my basket, but the gloves were only $2, and it's Runner's World....
....a friend asked me to go grocery shopping with him and introduce him to Trader Joe's this weekend. Seriously, does it get any better than that? Methinks not. And yes, I was highly entertained that he considered me a grocery store/food expert. Definitely a weekend highlight.
....I was able to pick up some treats for my family. I spent yesterday at home with them, and it was so nice to be able to get them each something they love without worrying about money. The day itself was marvelous, as well. My mum made huge burgers and minestrone soup for lunch and sugar cookies topped with mini Milky Ways for dessert, and then we hung out watching tv and chatting all afternoon. I love spending time with my family doing nothing, so yesterday hit the spot perfectly.
....I got over eight hours of sleep on Saturday night. I have no picture to prove it, but my clock read 8:30 when I woke up and I had fallen asleep a little after midnight. It was glorious and hasn't happened since Joe left. Clearly, my sleep troubles are his fault and have absolutely nothing to do with my own inability to quiet my mind at times. He should just come home now, right? Right.
....these beautiful flowers are now on my desk, brightening up my living room. I found them at Trader Joe's on Saturday. I love flowers, so these were the first thing in my cart. They make me smile whenever I see them.
...I had two great runs this weekend. I've been fighting a cold for awhile now, so I took Friday off. The weather was too beautiful to not take advantage of this weekend, however, so I decided to go out and see how I felt. Pushing myself hard was not allowed, and I just ran till I was done. Saturday found me completing 8.87 miles in 1 hour and 14 min (avg pace 8.25), while Sunday was done after 5.55 miles in 41 min (avg pace 7.32). I was very pleased with all of them but most happy with my mentality. Working to keep it up, too.
...crunchy cookie butter exists. No further explanation required.
...this was my run outfit on Sunday. Shorts? T-shirt? In January? Unheard of (and definitely not what I wore today...hello Brooks pants and Nike hoodie), but very much enjoyed.
...hockey is officially starting on Saturday. The Pens play the Flyers. Way to start the season, NHL schedule makers. Couldn't have picked a better game.
...my daddy and I have our first date of the year on Sunday. Part of my Christmas gift to my dad included a special daddy/daughter date at least once a month. This month we are going to check out a little historic town located between Pittsburgh (me) and Grove City (him). My dad said they have good ice cream, too...clearly he knows how to pick awesome dates.
Have a marvelous Monday!
How was your weekend? What is your NHL team's first game? Are you considered a grocery store expert by your friends? A marvelous thing for you?

i still have no tried justin's! i feel like an epic failure as a blogger but i have a hard time justifying buying it. don't ask me why - i spend crazy cash on luna bars and baking ingredients but for some reason dropping it on a jar of nut butter just doesn't happen for me. some day! i'm glad your runs went so well and i'm not going to apologize for the special k. i'll consider that a favor :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha the only reason I bought it was because I had that giftcard...I usually feel the same way about the price, but now I might have to make an exception because it's too good haha...and favor is right ;)
DeleteAw I wish I could have father-daughter dates with my dad monthly! What an awesome gift idea, I love it! Crunchy nut butter is my favorite and I refuse to buy any other (well except for the cashew I just bought lol) Let's face it I just love nut butters. Good luck at your first day!!! It is so exciting to start something new! Infants scare me sometimes, but toddlers scare me more. I think it is great the mom is staying this week to help you get comfortable. Have a beautiful and wonderful day dear!
ReplyDeleteThank you darlin! I am a lucky girl to get to have them :) And toddlers can definitely be scary too...but at least they can tell you what's wrong/what they need...not so much with babies...
DeleteYAY for lots of TJ's swag and Justin's almond butter rocks! They had a vanilla flavor, exclusive to whole foods only, but our whole foods around here doesn't have it!
ReplyDeleteHappy week to you girl!
AHHHHHHHHHH ok! Thank you for clarifying the vanilla almond butter thing because I've been looking everywhere (except whole foods haha) and haven't been able to find it...have to suck it up and check it out then!
DeleteI swear, I need another trip to the states just for Trader Joes. And Justins - I've tried the vanilla almond, so I have to see if the other flavours live up.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely not an NHL girl, but I do have the Superbowl to look forward to! Although the Steelers are not a part of it...sigh.
Yes you do! Come to Pittsburgh so we can be friends ;) And even though the Steelers aren't in the super bowl we can make it a steelers themed trip for you....
DeleteHere we go Flyers, Here we go! ( Ha Ha ).
ReplyDeleteOkay now that that's out of the way...
I cannot believe they now have crunchy cookie butter at TJ. That may be the BEST news I've heard all day. I will definitely have to make sure to stock up on this wonderful stuff come March.
Those flowers you purchased are beautiful. I don't think you'll be able to have a bad day once you look at them in the morning.
Glad you & your family had such a great day/evening together. Your father-daughter date sounds like so much fun :)
JESSIE!!! YOU JUST BROKE MY HEART!!!!!!!
DeleteHaha, ok not really, but I can't wait to watch the Pens cream your boys on Saturday ;) And yeah, you'll definitely have to pick some up! It's amazing, especially on my finger ;)
Ahhh all your treats looks PHENOM. I always get flowers from TJs too! My sister laughs at me, but I like how they brighten up a room. And crunchy cookie butter. It happened to fall into my cart last week too.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of falling into carts, I stopped at Target last night for birthday candles, then left with candles, countertop cleaner, nail polish, berries, bananas, and marie claire. Weird how that happens.
Happy Monday!
Yay for excellent treat tastes ;) And seriously, you can't be Trader Joe's prices for anything, including flowers! That's not bad for a Target trip either...I usually end up with way more ;)
DeleteCRUNCHY COOKIE BUTTER EXISTS!?! Excuse me while I sprint to TJs to get my own jar. ;) Seriously, who needs baked goods and desserts when I all I need to make me happy is a big 'ole spoon and a jar of nut butter? ;)
ReplyDeleteIt does exist!! And it's soooo good :)
DeleteWahoo for TJ's awesomeness and fresh flowers! I find that either one of those things can significantly brighten my day - but the two together is sheer fabulousness. :) I hope you're enjoying the first day of your new gig - good for you for listening to your heart as you decide what your next steps will be!
ReplyDeleteThanks love :) So far so good! And I couldn't agree more about TJs and flowers...perfect combination :)
DeleteWHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP TEMPTING ME WITH COOKIE BUTTER?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteAlso, can I come over to your mom's house for dinner? I want burgers with sugar cookies topped with milky ways for dessert!
Oh, and I totally would have thrown a temper tantrum inthe middle of trader joe's. I see nothing wrong with that. If I want my froyo, they better freaking have it.
Can you tell I'm preoccupied with food today?
Hahaha I like your food preoccupation when it's about tasty stuff like cookie butter and my mum's cookies ;)
DeleteWooo!! Good luck at the first day and i hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks love :) So far we're good!
DeleteOh my gosh, I freaking love groceries haha all of it looks awesome. I seriously saw the three fresh boxes of cereal and just sighed to myself.. Gotta love TJ's and Target! And wow, girl! Congrats on the fabulous runs! That's an awesome pace you have! I'm definitely impressed. March 8th is coming sooner and sooner! :) Have a great Monday, and have fun on your date!!
ReplyDeleteThanks love :) And YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! Finally someone else who shares my love of groceries...seriously one of my favorite things in the world haha. I really do get excited when I get grocery store gift cards ;)
DeleteYAYYYYY!!!!! I'm about to text you to say good luck today but GOOD LUCK! You will get the hang of it quickly and hopefully love it. So jealous you got to go on a run in shorts and a tshirt. I can't wait for spring. And I think I need to go get some cookie butter like..now because I can't believe I have never tried it!
ReplyDeleteUm you definitely need to get on the cookie butter train! And you'll be running in shorts and a tshirt by the weekend, I predict!
DeleteI don't know where to start here....
ReplyDelete1. Yay for your new job! Hopefully all goes well :)
2. AH! I've wanted to try Justin's for SO long. If they have it in Canada, I have no idea where!
3. The cookies your mom made sound AH-mazing!
4. Yay! Flowers are happy :)
5. You're still a beast runner... 'nuff said. I wasn't able to work out at all last week because I was sick. And then it was the holidays before that. Waking up this morning was awful for me... haha
6. CRUNCHY COOKIE BUTTER?!?!? D:!!!
I went down to the States last year and got some...so dang good. Must try the crunchy!
7. Oh right! I remember what shorts are! Ya, it's snowing here. Lots and lots. It'll be awhile before shorts... haha.
8. Hmmm... oh right! Love you! It does indeed sound like a Marvelous Monday ;)
I love you too! Seriously, your comments make my day :) You need to get some cookie butter and Justin's stat...and I will keep my fingers crossed that the snow melts asap so you can be in shorts and tshirts too! Although it's cooling down as we speak, so no more shorts for awhile :(
DeleteOh I'm glad :D I know I need some! But no access no it from here D: Next time I'm in the States for sure! (whenever that is...) I think it'll be awhile before shorts can come out here ;) But oh no! Bye shorts... ;(
Deletejealous of these epic shops, I adore being home because I can do that. boo. I am so glad you found some time to relax, see family and enjoy yourself this weekend. what a great way to welcome in a new job
ReplyDeleteThanks love :) I couldn't agree more! Now if this whole sleep thing would work itself out, we'd be in business!
DeleteHave fun with your dad!! I am so excited hockey is starting again, although I'm a Red Wings fan all the way ;) I seriously wish there was a TJ's near me!! That froyo looks incredible, definitely justifies any temper tantrum you might have had lol
ReplyDeleteOh fine on the Red Wings fan...those were my fav Stanley Cups by far ;) Just happy you're excited too! And oh it so is...happy to be tantrum free for now ;)
DeleteCrunch Cookie Butter would be my downfall, but there is no TJ near my school!!? Its a crime I know.
ReplyDeleteHope your first day at the new job went well girl!
TJs seriously needs to expand...I need a location in my living room...and my first day went great :) Thank you, hun!
DeleteThe thing I noticed most? How awesome the booty looks on the runner on RW and how my booty is getting there. Join me? ;)
ReplyDeleteSeriously fabulous things to have making your Monday marvelous. Hope they continue to be so!!
Haha hell yes! And mine is just about there ;)
DeleteI LOVE the idea of having a date night with your dad!! I am totally going to do that! :) I could just pack a lunch and hit the road with my dad. I am a HUGE daddy's girl... I mean huge. We could just set and drink coffee together and enjoy the quiet.
ReplyDeleteI think it's nice that you were able to spend time with your family...
Cookie crunch butter??? Holy Cow.
I'm so excited for Sunday haha...seriously going to be a highlight of my week :) And yeah...that stuff is AMAZINGGGGGGGG...not usually a "crunchy" fan but this stuff is better than regular!
