Thankful Thursday

Good morning, cherubs! Sorryyyyyyy, I missed saying that word when writing, so I turned you guys into my cherubs for today! Lucky you ;) (Random tangent, but I really wish blogger had emoticons, since I'm a child and think they're a blast to use...am I missing them? Or is blogger just lame like that?). Anywho, since it's Thursday (and we are one day away from the weekend and two away from hockey [GO PENS!!!!! IF YOU LOSE TO THE FLYERS I WILL BE INCREDIBLY CRANKY FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK!]), it's time for another round of thankfulness, created by the lovely Jessie over at Jessie Loves To Run. Thank you for hosting and helping remind me how blessed I truly am, darlin :) (Note: an emoticon would be much cuter there...)

...Peanut. He's teaching me new things every day, especially on the patience front. Sometimes, he drops off to sleep in an instant...other times, not so much. Either way is fine with me, since longer times mean that I get to cuddle longer...unless I really have to use the potty...then it's a problem. But we're learning together and making it work, and he is as entertained by me as I am (seriously, "Running Baby?" BEST GAME EVER!), so I think we're going to get along swimmingly.

...Peanut's mom (and the rest of the family). She has been a lifesaver this week, answering any and all of my crazy questions and showing me the ropes around their house. She's given me advice and suggestions for things to try and listened to every concern I've had. The biggest thing she's done, however, is recognize that we're going to do things differently AND is FINE with that (as long as her children are safe and well cared for of course). She's also giving me the opportunity to test different things out each day by leaving the house for a few hours to give us a chance on our own. She cleared some space for me to leave extra clothes and snacks (babies are messy...and I like to eat), too, so I'm not carrying multiple bags of stuff over each day.  All of this combined (in addition to how awesome they are as a family in general) makes me pretty damn sure this is where I'm meant to be right now, which is huge blessing.

...my hip feeling back to normal. I have not the slightest clue what I did between falling asleep on Sunday night and waking up on Monday morning, but thankfully, with some tlc and lots of yoga and stretching (oh, and no running...#madface), it feels fine (as of yesterday actually, but I didn't want to push it just in case so stuck with one more day of yoga for my workout), and I am testing it out on a four miler today. The route I take has lots of chances for coming back quickly if I need to (read: pain returns), and I can't wait to get back out! Fingers crossed it's completely back to normal, running and all!

....yoga. As much as I've missed running, yoga has been an amazing alternative. I can feel myself getting stronger and more flexible (heels ALMOSTTTTTTTTTTT completely on the floor in my downward dog for the first time ever!!), and it's been a very relaxing and energizing way to start my day. Definitely something I want to continue emphasizing and hopefully practicing at a studio every now and then in the near future.

...plans with friends to celebrate the return of hockey. I'll always watch a game...but it's a lot more fun with friends..especially when everyone involved loves the Pens.

....quiet moments. I don't have them very often and don't appreciate them as much as I should when I do. Sometimes nothing beats silence and peace.

....patience. Without it, no one would get anything done (and get done nicely to boot).

...conversations with family and friends throughout the day. You guys have asked, encouraged, and celebrated with me this week like you have so many times before, and I wouldn't be able to do it without you. Thank you.

Have a terrific Thursday!

What are you thankful for today? Have you ever randomly woken up injured? How did you handle it? What about taking care of a baby? Any advice?

  1. i'm so glad your hip is feeling better! what a great thing to be thankful for because it means you can get back to running, but i am so thankful that you were so smart about taking care of yourself. it's such a great thing that you gave yourself this week to stretch and get rid of the hip pain. WAY TO GO!

  2. One of the reasons I picked wordpress over blogger when starting a blog: I love emoticons; :-D

And I'm glad you're figuring stuff out with the baby! When I was in the daycare, we sometimes took care of newborns less than a month old, so a learning curve for sure. Really, it just takes time to figure out their cues, their routine and what their cries mean. You'll get it all figured out soon!

    1. Thanks girl! I know you're right haha and most of it depends on him...just trying to build up my arsenal of tricks to try if I need them ;) and I'm thinking about switching over to wordpress at some point...thinking it might have a little more of what I want..

  3. I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to the whole non-running thing. I don't have an injury, but my body has been sick and exhausted these past few days, so I took yesterday off. I know I have to take rest days, but i just get so anxious since exercise is my main "tension releaser" Anyway, I'm just happy to see that I'm not the only one, and to get the reminder that it is a GOOD thing to take care of my body.
Also, I'm so glad everything is going well with Peanut (love that name you gave him!). It's amazing how much the little guys can teach us. :)
I nominated you for the Liebster award! Have a great Thursday, we're almost there! :)

    1. I am SOOOOOO proud of you for taking yesterday off, girl! Seriously, I know it's hard (believe me, I know), but the best choice to make when you're sick is ALWAYS to rest and let your body focus on getting rid of the bug, instead of on recovering from a run. Thank you so much for the award :) Makes my day!

  4. Peanut is so lucky to have such a fun nanny! I'm glad you & the mom are figuring out what works for both of you.

Also, YAY for an almost heeled hip. Giving yourself a couple days off from running was such a great idea! Good luck on your 4 miler today dear <3

  5. I'm so glad to hear that you love your new gig and that the family (and Peanut) are so awesome. It's wonderful to know that this is where you're supposed to be! <3 And I totally echo Jessie's thoughts on the matter - Peanut is lucky to have such a fun and generally awesome nanny.

Hope your four miler goes swimmingly and that your hip feels 100% better!

  6. It's crazy how spending time with kids makes you feel so grateful and happy-- almost like nothing else. I think it's the innocence. There's no where else on this Earth that you can experience such unadulterated, pure innocence. :)

  7. So awesome that you are working for such a great family. I'm sure how the parents are could really make or break the experience of easing into a nanny job. And it sounds like the kiddo is great too :) I am so happy for you girlie! I am also thankful for yoga and want to start going again since I've taken a little hiatus from it.

  9. Hip pain is awful and I get it a lot from all of my years of dancing and forcing a turnout that God did not gift me with... It is all about rest and feeling it out which you did wonderfully! So proud of you girl! I have no advice on the baby front... SORRY! But I will say I like your idea to go to a yoga class every now and then because it might open up an opportunity to meet new people like we were talking about in our emails! Maybe they will be Pens fans too!

  10. I DONT KNOW WHY MY READER ISNT TELLING ME WHEN YOU PUT UP A NEW POST! I'd say it's extremely rude of them. Anyways, you have some pretty awesome things to be thankful for, like doing what your body needs and taking some time away from running to recover. It sounds like it has done wonders for you! And your job sounds absolutely perfect for you- I know you made the right decision. You seem so happy!!! And that alone makes it worth it and something to be thankful for for sure :)

  11. Originally, I was supposed to work Saturday and would be out for the Sens/Jets game in the afternoon. HOWEVER, I got a call this afternoon asking me to work a full-day tomorrow in exchange for Saturday off. Being able to sleep-in AND get in a long run AND watch the first hockey game of the season?! Yes, please!! Enjoy the season opener!!

  13. Hello my beautiful friend!! I am so happy and proud that things are going so well. With Peanut and the family!! :). Cuddling with my niece was always a favorite of mine. Now I have to pay her a dollar to do it. :). "act like you like me for 2 minutes" is what I tell her!
I really need to put yoga back into my weekly plan. I feel very tight this morning and have the worst headache!
How did your run go??? Hope there was zero pain!!

    1. No pain!!! And it's crazy how fast they grow up! Already his older brother (who I've been babysitting for since he was just over a year old) doesn't like to be held for longer than a second in hugs and is constantly running around trying to get into everything...makes me laugh and wonder how they grow so quickly!
