Happy Thursday, friends! Anyone else done with these ridiculous temperatures? I realize that it's January, but seriously...single digits? With wind chills below 0? I'm a little over that, especially since I'm wearing a ridiculous amount of layers in my apartment each night (including a hat), and I haven't been able to run since Monday (read: Caitlin is cranky and needs to stretch her legs). That will hopefully change as soon as I post this, since I'm determined to attempt to brave the cold this morning (the wind chill is supposed to be back in the single digits) and hopefully get in a six miler. Fingers crossed, friends, fingers crossed. I might go a little stir crazy if I can't, but perhaps focusing on what I'm thankful for this week will help me stay in a positive mindset. Thank you, Jessie, for giving me the chance to do so :)
...yoga. I went to my first class on Tuesday night, and it was absolutely wonderful. I had asked a good friend from high school if she wanted to check out Yoga Hive with me, and she was happy to do so. She had been to a few classes at this studio but never the one we attended on Tuesday, which was a stretch session geared toward runners and cyclists. I don't think I've ever stretched so well in my life or had more trouble sitting, getting up, and walking up and down stairs yesterday...totally worth it. When can I go back? Hopefully next week...I'd love to try a vinyasa class and hit the stretch session some more. I would never have thought those words would come out of my mouth. Funny how things change as you get older and leave yourself more open to new experiences.
...new opportunities. I can't remember the last time I woke up excited to go to work, but that's how I've felt every day for the past two weeks. It doesn't matter how much sleep I got, how sick I feel, or how crappy my run was...I'm always ready to head out the door and spend the day with Peanut. He's such a special little guy and makes me feel better about anything. The fact that he smiles when he sees me/hears my voice now is pretty priceless, too (oh, and we did a music experiment yesterday, where we ran through some of my running playlist to see what his musical tastes currently are...he is NOT a fan of Justin Beiber but he went crazy for Train's "Drive By" and Usher's "Scream"...full on baby back dancing and laughing...cracked me up). And in other exciting news, Tribesports has taken me on as an ambassador, which made Monday a very exciting day (besides the fact that Peanut, Big Kid, and I survived). I love the challenges and workouts that Tribesports puts out, so I am very much looking forward to working with them and sharing their circuits and challenges with you.
...friends who let me come and play for a weekend. I realized earlier in the week that I haven't left Western PA since right before the 4th of July, which makes a little trip long overdue. The fact that I get to hang out with some pretty amazing ladies is icing on the cake.
...a family who checks in every day. Even if we don't talk on the phone, my mum still texts and asks how I'm doing and how the day was. Always a nice reminder that you're loved and supported.
...finding contentment for the present. While I wish Joe was home with everything I have, I know that the next 43 days will pass quickly, and I don't know that I've ever felt this content with life. I feel very peaceful about where I am right now. I'm trying new things, having fun, figuring out what I want and like, and doing my best to stay in the moment. It just feels nice to be happy and not waiting for something to happen or change.
...hot tea. It's been my saving grace for the past few days (well that and a snuggly Peanut...he keeps me warm too) of ridiculousness known as winter in the burgh.
...hockey. It might sound ridiculous, but it's true. It's nice to wake up and know that there's a game to enjoy at the end of the day and have something new to watch with friends. Plus, the Pens are awesome, so I'd be crazy not to be thankful for them (and the Stanley Cup they are bringing home in June).
...new friends and connections. I love finding new blogs to follow and getting to know different bloggers. It's been one of my favorite things about joining this community, and I look forward to more opportunities to do so.
...only 43 days till Joe is home. It's coming, and yes I'm trying to book the month of February to make it go faster, so if you'd like to assist me in this venture and do something fun, let me know. I'll be your best friend and make you any baked good you want.
Have a terrific Thursday!
When's the last time you took a little vacation? Have you tried any new yoga classes or exercise classes recently? How are you staying warm? I'm running out of tea and not going to the store until it reaches double digits with the wind chill...I need new ideas.

I am just so happy for you girl! You are really loving this new routine and job and embracing life! I hope you got to run this morning, but if not I hope you enjoyed a nice morning in the apartment. I have a feeling you ladies are going to tear up the town on your little get together!
ReplyDeleteThanks love :) I had a great run, cold weather and all, and had a huge smile on my face the whole time!
DeleteI am so glad that you are enjoying your job so much!! I am at a good place too when it comes to work :). One of the most difficult things is to find contentment in this life. In some things, I hope to never find contentment, but in life in general and with myself, yes. :).
ReplyDeleteI am super excited that Joe is closer to coming home!!!
P.S. E-mail will be coming today...,it was super busy at work yesterday, but I can't wait to update you!!! :).
Agreed! And I'm happy you are too :)
DeleteApparently, I have things in common with a 3 month old (not a Justin Bieber fan either!) baby's got good taste!
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope you survived your run! You could not pay me enough to spend more time outside than I have to today.
Hahahaha, he does indeed. And survived I did...still laughing about your comment :)
DeleteI'M SO JEALOUS YOUR COUNTDOWN IS AT 43!!!! i'm just trying to make it to double digits - something about triple digits is so depressing lol. i know i keep saying this all week but gosh i cannot wait for this weekend. we got some snow this morning so hopefully that won't complicate anything! and i'm glad you got to go for your run. 6 miles in these temps is mad impressive!
ReplyDeleteAlmost there girl! It will go faster than you think! And I am so excited...nothing including snow can keep me away!
DeleteSo happy to hear your yoga went well!! That is truly the best, a great stretching sesh. I hope you have a great 6 miler too. I'm currently contemplating going for a run on the treaddy or outside tomorrow.. boring but warm? or windy and cold but interesting? Meh, we'll see.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you look forward to your job is huge. You know you're doing something good for you :)
Yay for 43 days!! It'll go by faster than you know! February is short, anyway :)
Have a great Thursday, girl! Have fun with the little guy!
Agreed! I hope your run went well too, whichever way you decided to go :)
DeleteI can just tell in your posts lately how amazing you are doing and how happy you are...brings a smile to my face. You seem to be THRIVING. I am so glad you tried yoga at a studio and loved it and even more glad how well your new job is going!!! Eeeek positive changes dear.
ReplyDeleteThanks love :) I couldn't agree more!
DeleteHooray - you're already down to 43 days! By the time Monday rolls around, you'll be into the 30s! (And hey, it's supposed to warm up next week, so we can all look forward to that.) :) I totally hear you on being 100% over the cold weather. I'm SO not feelin' it. I'm sorry DC won't be able to offer you a more mild climate than the 'Burgh, but hopefully you'll be able to hit up one of our eleventy bajillion Starbucks branches for some hot tea! Have a fabulous trip! :)
ReplyDeleteI know!! Crazy how fast time goes sometimes! No worries about not being warmer in D.C. I'll be in good company so that'll more than make up for it ;)
Deleteoh man 43 days? that is all! I am so happy, that sounds wonderful that you are so close to having him with you. This weekend is so close, hopefully no travel plans are changed because of this stupid weather. Been on the treadmill the last three days and read NOT HAPPY ALEX
ReplyDeleteI couldn't take another day inside, and since the wind chills were above freezing, I was off! Looking like a marshmallow! Totally worth it :)
DeleteSo good that you acknowledge all of the little things that so many people take for granted. I really don't know what I'd do without my family. I hear ya on the cold, it's frickin' freezing here!!
ReplyDeleteYeah this whole winter thing needs to get out of here now, methinks!
DeleteMe! - I'm definitely over this ridiculous weather. Thankfully, it's -finally- starting to warm up here a little bit after the cold front that we've been blessed with over the past few weeks, but apparently it's not going to last. Sigh. Spring... come soon! Hot chocolate, blankets, and multiple hoodies have been my saving graces.
ReplyDeletemm now I want hot chocolate! And I need some new hoodies...perhaps I'll suggest a shopping trip this weekend...
DeleteDon't even get me started on how cold it is here ... let's just say that I normally Google the temp to see what the celcius conversion would be in farenheit. I found out that at -32ish the temperatures actually stay pretty much equal. And that was the HIGH yesterday. Yep. This afternoon, it was warm when I left work (read: -18F). THANKFULLY, I should be back to running outside Monday!! (Two days too late for the 20miler that I'm running Saturday, but it's something to look forward to!)
ReplyDeleteNot nearly as exciting as your 42 (now ... because Thursday is essentially over) days left to go!! :D They'll FLY.
Good grief girl! I guess I can't complain that much haha! They will indeed :)
DeleteBahhhhh some of my comments aren't going through on this! I don't get it! But I'm so glad you're loving life right now. You have some pretty awesome things to be thankful for. Including an awesome weekend with some awesome blends... ;)
ReplyDeleteI do :) And I wish that could happen...someday soon we'll make it work!
