Thrown For A Loop

So, the whole holiday on a Tuesday thing is really throwing me off today...as is the fact that I'm back at work today but only today for the week (two free vacation days to use before the end of the year starting yesterday...since next Friday is my last day here, it seemed smart to use them while I can and while the boy is home...extra time together #win). My alarm going off at 5 this morning definitely resulted in some howling more from habit than anything else. I was pretty awake since someone asked if we could go to bed at 8:45 last night. Guess what, friends? It WASN'T me! And yes, I did, in fact, stare at the boy in shock and wonderment when he asked because I couldn't believe my ears (for those of you who don't know, normally I'm the one falling asleep by 8, which someone constantly teases me for, so this was a big deal). It had me raring to go for my run this morning, and I pounded out 7.5 miles before 6:30...pretty productive if I do say so myself.

Our New Years Day was incredibly chill (read: wonderful) and involved me in comfy clothes for the entire thing. We had gone to a friend's house for a small party on NYE, which was a lot of fun, and called for the making of oodles of cookies. Ok, it didn't call for a hugeeeeeeeee amount (since there were 10 of us total), but I used it as an excuse to make two batches I've had my eyes on for a while: Hayley's Best Chocolate Chip Cookies Ever and Sally's Death By Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookies

Both were phenomenal, so you should probably make them stat. They look pretty, too!

Being the party animals that we are, the boy and I were home by 12:45 and in bed and fast asleep by 1:00. Wild night for sure ;) I managed to sleep until 8:30, which has become my standard wake up time on vacation (crazy I know) and then stretched out with some yoga....level 1 of Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown and Detox Yoga Level 1 from Yoga Download. Both are favorites and just what my body needed after some hard running days. After that, the boy and I did a whole lot of nothing besides watching Jersey Shore (we finished all available seasons on Hulu yesterday, and yes, we are very proud of this fact), taking a mini break from that awesomeness to watch Abduction (filmed in Pittsburgh, which ended up being its only redeeming quality...gave us some great ideas for how to make Pirates games more entertaining though), and working on a puzzle. We got the entire outline put together before we gave up for the day (someone insisted on getting the 1000 piece puzzle, while someone else [read: me] thought 500 would be sufficient...someone asked if someone else wasn't up for the challenge, so obviously we then had to get the 1000 piece....someone [read: me] is now wondering if this puzzle is going to be completed before the end of the year). We did end up leaving my apartment for twenty minutes to walk and get someone's car from the night before...

First picture of 2013! Walk of shaming it (kind of anyway...we knew ahead of time that we wouldn't be driving home from our friend's house, who conveniently live a 15 minute walk away) and proud of it. We also ate things like this...

Boy's famous Vegas chili with my homemade cornbread...only took him 2 years to make it for me...

And this...

Homemade cookies from this girl...clearly we had to try one of each...all were delicious.

I didn't take a picture of dinner (wooops), but we had grilled cheese, tomato soup, and leftover fried pickles from our NYE dinner. Hit the spot perfectly. I actually didn't have a single vegetable yesterday (besides the tomatoes and peppers in the chili and the tomatoes and spinach on my grilled cheese...I suppose pickles are technically a vegetable, too, but I feel like the whole fried thing negates that), and I was quite proud of the fact. I was also proud of the fact that I got a chance to sit down before bed and make this...

My "Things I Want to do in 2013" list. This is not something that I'm strictly adhering to in any way, shape, or form. It's just a rough outline of some things I would like to try out at some point in 2013. If I get to all of them, great. If I get to none of them, also great. My biggest focus for the year is just to stay in the moment, and let go of everything else. And yesterday got that off to a great start...here's hoping I can keep it up :)

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

How was your first day of 2013? Are you back to work today? Did you eat any vegetables yesterday?

    1. Thanks darlin :) I'm pretty happy with those goals, too. I figured it wouldn't hurt to write some ideas down, mostly so I don't forget them haha and do my best to try some new things this year...we shall see how it goes...definitely not going to hold myself to accomplishing everything. Want to keep myself open to the unexpected and keep working on going easy on myself, especially with all the changes coming up!

    1. haha seriously, I am all about going to bed early these days...just thought it was funny that he suggested it before I did ;) I'm liking this whole sleeping in thing, too, although next week will be a rude awakening...today was fine since it was one day...next week, however, not so much :(

  4. My first day of 2013 was almost pure relaxation, minus some cleaning and taking down Christmas stuff. I'm not back in school until Monday so until then, I'll be enjoying the rest of the week being lazy. :-p

    1. That sounds heavenly! I kept saying I was going to clean up and take down the Christmas stuff....but that never happened. Wooops...made getting ready for work in the lights more enjoyable for one more day. Those puppies are coming down tonight, though...boy just doesn't realize he has a project after dinner yet ;)

  5. That sounds like the perfect new years for you :) Sometimes you just need a day without veggies! And you can't go wrong with grilled cheese- that was my lunch of choice on NYE so I fully support that meal choice. I think writing down goals makes it so much easier to accomplish them. I know you'll be able to do it, but if you don't, who cares? Have a great day, girl :)

  8. Mom had the day off with me today! It was incredibly nice! I think it is great you made that list. That is on my list for tomorrow and Friday, but I am glad you won't be being strict with it because that is not living in the moment! Hooray for going to sleep early :D I did too, weird but I felt sooooo good this morning anf woke up to bake a cake!

  11. Your day, that chili + cornbread, and those cookies [baked by you!] all sound fabulous! Care to share? I really wanna try one of J. Micheal's videos! I always hear great things about them, that they're a butt kicking good time... Enjoy your time with the boy! I remember when Ryan and I were long-distance and saying TTFN [I refused to say "bye"] was the hardest thing I had to do :? XO

  13. Good job on making that 2013 list. I guarantee it will push you to do some awesome things that you otherwise would have just put off until "tomorrow". Oh, and according to holiday rules, deep fried pickles count as a serving of green vegetables ;)

    1. I think so too, which is why I made it! I don't want to push myself to HAVE to do anything you know, but I do want to try some new stuff this year too...plus I loveeeeee checking things off on lists...type A personality for the win ;)

  14. You two are too perfect! I wish I could just buy out the rest of his contract for him so he doesn't have to go back & can be home with you for good like NOW!! Sigh... if only money grew on trees!!!

I think it's absolutely adorable the two of you decided to start on a puzzle. My mom actually just sent Joshua and I a puzzle to do. I'm pretty excited to try it. She said it too her & my dad almost 6 hours. Ha, I'm not quite sure I could sit that long. I can definitely see myself throwing it against the wall & calling it a night. Guess that's where patience comes in huh? Ha Ha!!

Enjoy the rest of your time you two have together!!! <3 <3

    1. Thank you darlin :) I appreciate that wish more than I can possibly say...I know the time will go fast (minus perhaps the month of February since that's a notoriously slow and just overall yuck month for me usually) and he'll be home for good. Just can't wait till it gets here :)
